Veros is opening a Christchurch office to better support clients across the South Island, bringing senior development experience, commercial judgement and real-world project leadership to a city entering its next phase of growth.

A stronger base for South Island work

From Gore and Wānaka to Cromwell, Lincoln and Nelson, Veros is already working alongside clients to test feasibility, shape delivery pathways, manage risk and keep projects moving. A Christchurch base brings that support closer to the projects, people and decisions shaping the region.

Christchurch is the natural base for Veros as it is the South Island’s largest city, a major commercial centre, and a place where ambition, investment and complexity are all in play.

A market with momentum and complexity

The city has moved beyond rebuild. The focus now is on how growth is planned, funded and delivered well.

Recent market reporting points to renewed interest in Christchurch and Canterbury, including stronger buyer attention, low industrial vacancy and improving office leasing conditions. Population growth and infrastructure investment continue to shape demand, while the construction outlook remains mixed across residential, non-residential and infrastructure activity.

For clients, that creates opportunity, but it also raises important questions early: what stacks up, what can be funded, what can be delivered, what risks need to be dealt with, and what needs to happen first.

Alan Grove, who will lead Veros Christchurch, says the city and wider Canterbury region are entering a more mature growth phase, with real opportunity for clients who can move early and make well-informed decisions.

“Christchurch and the Canterbury region are having some well-earned time in the sun after the challenges of the last decade or so. We are seeing a much more predictable market, but still with strong growth opportunities.

“Christchurch is truly a great city and offers genuine choice in how we live, work and play, highlighted by the new businesses choosing to locate here and the variety of housing choices on offer, from inner-city living to the edge of town.”

For Alan, that opportunity also brings complexity. As projects move from idea to delivery, early commercial and strategic leadership becomes critical.

“To take advantage of these opportunities, experienced development managers need to act as the commercial and strategic drivers across the entire project lifecycle, which can be increasingly complex as we navigate detailed planning approvals, challenging sites and tighter margins.”

From opportunity to delivery

Since 2012, Veros has built its reputation helping clients make confident property decisions and deliver projects that matter. For developers, landowners, investors, councils, iwi, businesses and community organisations, Veros brings structure, commercial judgement and practical leadership to complex projects.

Often, that work starts before a project is fully formed: testing feasibility, understanding risk, shaping delivery pathways and having the hard conversations early enough to protect the outcome.

That kind of advice matters in Christchurch and across the wider South Island.

Across housing, commercial property, tourism, infrastructure, mixed-use development and new communities, the opportunity is real. But in an active and nuanced market, it needs to be tested properly.

Senior local leadership from day one

To make that move credible from day one, Veros Christchurch will be led by Alan Grove.

Alan joins Veros as Senior Development Manager / South Island Regional Manager, bringing more than 30 years’ experience across the property industry in New Zealand and the UK. He has deep Christchurch and Canterbury experience, including 17 years with Ngāi Tahu Property and the past six years with Hughes Developments delivering new communities across Greater Christchurch and the Canterbury Plains.

Alan’s experience has been forged in the work that matters to this market: acquisition, due diligence, master planning, consenting, stakeholder engagement, financial analysis, project management and delivery.

He knows how to read the play, test the numbers, manage the moving parts and keep a project grounded when pressure builds.

Built from regional experience

Veros has grown from regional New Zealand, with established offices in Tauranga, Hamilton and Rotorua. Those markets have taught us a lot about growth, infrastructure pressure, housing demand, local government complexity, private sector ambition and the importance of getting projects moving in practical, commercially sensible ways.

Christchurch feels like a natural extension of that experience.

It is a city with scale, character and opportunity.

What this means for clients

For our clients, the Christchurch office means Veros support closer to the work, closer to the decisions and closer to the conditions shaping real project outcomes.

Alan will be based at QB Studios on High Street in central Christchurch. If you are working through a property, development or project challenge, or would simply like to say hello, he would welcome the chance to connect over a coffee.

Got a project, site or development challenge in Christchurch or the wider South Island? Veros Christchurch is now open, bringing senior local leadership and practical project experience closer to the work.
