Project overview

Bay Venues chief executive Gary Dawson had a vision to transform an old, disused building into a world-class high performance sports centre, anchored by the New Zealand All Blacks Sevens.

Veros development managed and delivered the project from inception to completion, assembling a collaboration of high performance sports, science and research groups along the way. This unique offering in Mt Maunganui provides a point of difference nationally and internationally, that has now seen a wide range of national and international sporting groups based in Mt Maunganui at the centre.

Project outcomes

One of the successes is the partnership with the University of Waikato in establishing a purpose built climate and altitude controlled hyperbaric chamber for training and research. Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor Alistair Jones said

“The centre’s environmental chamber is one of a small number of such facilities within Australasia and will be a draw-card for athletes and teams preparing for international sporting events where the combination of heat and humidity are likely to impact performance.”
