Project overview
Veros is proud to have played a pivotal role in the ongoing development of the Whangamatā Community Marae and Wellbeing Hub, situated at 101 Lindsay Road, Whangamatā. This initiative represents a significant step forward in serving the community through the strategic co-location of vital local organisations and services.
Engaged by the Whangamatā Community Marae Trust and Eastern Coromandel Community Services Trust, Veros conducted a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the suitability of developing a community marae at the site. This study aimed to identify optimal uses of the site that support community outcomes, ensure viability, and secure necessary approvals from the Thames Coromandel District Council (TCDC). Collaboratively working with local entities including the Whangamatā Theatre Society, Whangamatā Arts Collective, MenzShed Whangamatā, and the Whangamatā Resource Recovery Trust, we engaged in a robust co-design process. This involved multiple workshops and consultations to align the diverse needs and visions of all stakeholders.
The business case for the Community Marae and Wellbeing Hub was built on the foundation of enhancing the mana and wairua of the Whangamatā community. This multi-use facility aims to become a central hub for cultural identity, social services, and community events, promoting greater social cohesion and cultural preservation. Veros provided expert guidance in navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and delivered high-level cost estimates crucial for establishing a solid financial case for the project.
Project outcomes
The culmination of these efforts has led to the successful acquisition of a long-term land lease from TCDC for the community marae, with the council resolving to support the establishment of the Community Marae and Wellbeing Hub. The project is now moving towards becoming shovel-ready, with ongoing site master planning and concept design work. This development not only promises to enhance the capacity for community services but also to become a significant cultural focal point for both residents and visitors of Whangamatā and the wider South Eastern Coromandel Ward.
Veros is proud be part of the growth of the Whangamatā area, helping to bring this transformative project from concept to reality. Our expertise in managing complex multi-stakeholder environments and delivering comprehensive project solutions is helping to create a vibrant, inclusive space for all community members to thrive.
This project stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration and strategic planning in fostering a more connected and culturally rich society.
