Scott Beaumont has joined the Veros team this week in the role of Development Manager & Property Advisor, based in our Waikato office. Scott is a highly-skilled property negotiator and we are thrilled to have him on-board.
We sat down with Scott for a round of quickfire questions…
What’s your role at Veros? Development Manager & Property Advisor.
Where are you from? Originally from the Bay, I now call Hamilton home and I’m absolutely loving it. You get the best of both worlds in the “Mighty Waikato”. I live that fast-paced city life during the week, but on the weekends I’m out chasing adventure. There are some beautiful hiking spots right on the doorstep and plenty of fishing spots along the river too. And of course, it’s home to one of the best rugby teams in the country…go Chiefs!
Tell us about your background in the property industry? I started out as a Property Manager, where I got hands-on experience in negotiation and providing property advice to clients. Then during my 5 years at Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, I transitioned from managing their property portfolio to the role of Acquisitions Manager for the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty. I continued to grow and develop my acquisition expertise in my role as Senior Property Advisor at Waipa District Council. In this role, I was responsible for the acquisition of land for all the Council’s projects – it’s fair to say I know the Public Works Act like the back of my hand. My experience at the Council has provided me with an in-depth understanding of how local authorities processes, which I can now apply to my approach when working with similar organisations.
What’s the best experience of your career? It may have only been a small part of a major road safety improvement project, but for me completing my first negotiated purchase property agreement still stands out now. This was a big stepping stone, building my confidence and belief in my own abilities. Reflecting on the experience highlights the benefit of understanding the needs of all parties and the importance of working to find a solution that suits each party.
Why Veros? Veros came up repeatedly throughout my previous work and I was impressed to learn about their track record across a wide range of projects and developments, so I jumped at the chance to get involved. I’m excited to be joining a highly experienced team to continue to grow and develop my skills and what I can offer clients.
Tell us something about your new role that you are excited about? I get to use my 10 years’ experience in the industry as a platform to apply myself, and no doubt there will be some challenges along the way. This week already I’ve got stuck into a project with Surf Life Saving, a NZ institution, I’m excited to be a part of this and other projects that have a direct impact on communities. I find it extremely rewarding turning ideas into reality and being able to see the results of my hard work.
What does a typical day look like? I kickstart my day with the perfect combo – a walk with my dog, Indy, and a strong coffee – double shot flat white if you’re asking! I like to get ahead and be as effective as I can each day, so I’m in early planning my schedule and then putting it into action.
Outside of work, what’s something you are passionate about? My greatest passion is the great outdoors – hunting, fishing, and diving. I am often out on the boat chasing snapper, crays, scallops, and game fish… although the elusive first marlin is yet to come. The big backyard of New Zealand has so much to offer, I’m amazed that as I continue to explore, I keep finding hidden gems.
What are you famous for? If you were to ask my friends and family, it would be the creative cooking dishes of my latest catch. Whether its venison or seafood, they’re always a crowd-pleaser.
Welcome aboard Scott!
