Project overview

Veros was engaged by Tauranga City Council to manage the development of the Marine Parade Coastal Pathway, a three-kilometre marvel stretching from Mount Drury Reserve to Oceanbeach Road. This project has transformed the coastal reserve into a vibrant thoroughfare for the community and visitors of Mount Maunganui beach, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

The pathway features a mix of concrete paths and timber boardwalks, the latter specifically chosen for environmentally sensitive dune areas or near significant trees. At four meters wide, the pathway accommodates everyone – from families with prams to cyclists, skateboarders, and individuals with mobility aids, ensuring a shared space that truly serves the entire community.

In addition to facilitating movement and leisure, the project has significantly improved public amenities along the route. New playgrounds, drinking fountains, BBQs, showers, street furniture, and bike stands have been introduced, enhancing the overall beachfront experience.

The project’s success is a testament to the exceptional collaboration of the project team, achieving completion ahead of schedule. The commitment to open the path by Christmas exemplified the team’s dedication, allowing the public to enjoy the space throughout the summer season.

Adopting an innovative, section-by-section completion strategy enabled the timely opening of the pathway to the public, reflecting a flexible and highly effective project management approach underpinned by mutual trust among the project team.
